Former state and national Greens leader Bob Brown says Kim Booth has made a huge contribution to Tasmania’s environmental, economic and employment wellbeing.

“Kim has been a strong, clear voice for protecting Tasmania’s greatest asset, its World Heritage wilderness and forests, in times when the Liberals and Labor have abandoned them. He has been able to connect with workers in the logging industry to redress misuse of public assets and funds.

“Besides being parliament’s strongest defender of Tasmania’s heirloom of forests and wildlife and, more recently, the threatened Tarkine wilderness, Kim Booth will be remembered best for his leading local role in opposing the harebrained Gunns pulp mill proposal in the Tamar valley.

Kim’s decision to make way for renewal of the party representation in state parliament is magnanimous and a rare example for members of the older parties to emulate. I wish Kim and his family many happy years ahead away from the stress and strains of public life,” Brown said.
