Liberal Government budget cuts set to continue

Labor Leader Bryan Green is calling on the Treasurer to detail exactly how he intends cut another $592 million from the State Budget without doing further damage to our schools and hospitals.

“We know the Liberals plan to cut well over half a billion dollars more out of frontline community services and it’s time they were honest with Tasmanians.

“Peter Gutwein is trying to pretend that relief is on the way but these cuts are embedded in his budget.

“The Liberals have massively broken their promise not to cut frontline jobs and services and Tasmanians are going to see more of the same.

“How can Mr Gutwein claim the ‘heavy lifting is over’ when he knows even more cuts are on the way?

“The Government’s own budget papers show another $592 million in cuts will occur before 2017-18.

“There are $200 million in cuts to be made in the coming financial year alone including $54 million in health, $38 million in education, $17 million in State Growth and $11 million in police.

“This will mean at least 400 more workers will lose their jobs.

“The Government needs to explain which jobs will go and what services will be cut even harder?”
