Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon has called on Treasurer Peter Gutwein to be clear with Tasmanians over the state’s revised share of GST.

The Commonwealth Grants Commission has recommended Tasmania receives $2.236 billion in 2015/16, $141 million more than projected.

“Peter Gutwein has been quick to play down this seemingly significant boost to the budget,” Mr Bacon said.

“What’s he up to? Is he preparing to try and pass the increase off as his own good work?

“An increase of this size would make a significant difference when it comes to repairing some of the damage done by Mr Gutwein’s harsh cuts in schools and hospitals.

“The Treasurer must be upfront and honest over what this means for the budget.”
