The Hodgman Liberal Government’s number one priority is jobs.
We welcome the release of today’s ABS figures which, for the first time, break down employment in the renewable energy sector by State.
In Tasmania, the renewable energy sector employs around 1,500 Tasmanians and we want to see that number grow.
The best way to drive jobs growth in this area is to once again make energy a competitive advantage for Tasmania by delivering the lowest possible power prices that are genuinely sustainable over the longer term.
Our Tasmanian Energy Strategy, which will be released in the near future, will have a specific focus on identifying new opportunities to better utilise Tasmania’s energy investments to retain existing industry as well to attract new businesses and industry to the State.
We are also continuing to advocate for an outcome on the Renewable Energy Target (RET) that protects Tasmania’s investments in renewable energy and protects Tasmanian jobs and provides greater recognition of Hydro generation.
We would urge the Commonwealth Government and Federal Labor to reach a bipartisan position on the RET as soon as possible to provide certainty for investment.
