Labor Leader Bryan Green today encouraged voters in the Legislative Council seat of Windermere to send a message to the State Liberal Government that enough is enough over cuts to health and education.

“Hospitals and schools are under enormous pressure and Tasmania needs people in the Upper House who will stand up against the Liberal cuts,” Mr Green said.

Mr Green said Labor’s candidate for Windermere, Jennifer Houston, would be a strong representative.

“We need people in the Legislative Council who will speak up for essential services, not rubber stamp Will Hodgman and Peter Gutwein’s harsh cuts.

“The incumbent has not lifted a finger when it comes to these cuts.

Ms Houston today joined Mr Green at the Launceston General Hospital.

“I’m standing up against the Liberal Government’s harsh cuts to our schools and hospitals,” Ms Houston said.

“People I have spoken to on the doors are very concerned about the pressure being felt in classrooms and in hospital wards.

“With an arrogant Liberal government in the lower house we need strong members in the upper house who will oppose cuts to jobs and services.

“More than 220 jobs and $200 million in funding is being cut from health alone over the forward estimates.”
