For the first time in the North West, mental health consumers will have an opportunity to question and find out more about Government Mental Health Services and have their questions answered.
A series of quarterly forums will be held in Burnie and Devonport throughout 2015, with the inaugural forum focusing on the Mental Health Act 2013 led by the Chief Psychiatrist Dr Leonard Lambeth, from the Department of Health and Human Services. Sue Wyeth, the General Manager of Mental Health Service, Tasmanian Health Organisation – North West will also update consumers on what is happening in Mental Health Services on the Coast.
Miranda Ashby, Executive Officer of Flourish, Mental Health Action In Our Hands Inc, is excited about the forum and explained that ‘Flourish and the Tasmanian Health Organisation – North West are hosting the forums in collaboration to ensure that consumers in the North West have the opportunity to meet and discuss major issues with Mental Health Services staff’. Miranda further explained that ‘Flourish was about empowering mental health consumers and forums like this provide opportunities for increased empowerment for a traditionally vulnerable, disempowered and silent group in our community. She urged all mental health consumers in the North West to come along’.
This free forum will be held on Thursday 19th March 2015 from 2.00 – 4.00pm on the 5th floor, Reece House, 46 Mount Street, Burnie.
