Hundreds of Tasmanian students from more than 90 Government schools will tomorrow take a stand against bullying as part of the fifth annual National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence.

We all need to spread the message that bullying and violence, in or outside of school, is not okay at any time.

Government schools across Tasmania have excellent strategies in place for addressing bullying and supporting positive behavior, as well as resources that help teachers and parents tackle bullying and create safe, respectful environments.

I am especially encouraged to see many of our students initiating their own programs such as Devonport High School, where students have developed activities run by the school’s Student Leaders to raise awareness and support students.

However, it’s important we keep promoting these important messages and the National Day of Action is a great opportunity for this.

I congratulate all Tasmanian schools who will take part in the National Day of Action and commend the work done in all schools to provide a safe and supportive school environment.
