Tasmania is heading in the right direction and the launch of the Kangaroo Bay Redevelopment is evidence we are building on the momentum.

Today, I joined Senate President Stephen Parry and Clarence Mayor Doug Chipman in calling for expressions of interest in advancing this rare waterfront development opportunity.

After years laying idle, this prime parcel of land will be made available for job creating development.

The Kangaroo Bay redevelopment has the potential to generate up to $50 million in new investment, creating hundreds of jobs during the construction phase and once it’s complete.

This project is a great example of all three levels of government working co-operatively in the best interests of Tasmania.

My Government has contributed Crown Land valued at $2.5 million and in return the council has assumed the project costs and risks, while the Federal Government has provided $5 million in funding through the Tasmanian Jobs and Growth Plan.

This project could also help to progress the Bellerive Yacht Club’s marina redevelopment, which is being advanced in conjunction with this development.

The council will now seek proposals from the private sector to develop two major development parcels at Kangaroo Bay, the Ferry Wharf Site and the Boulevard Site.

There is great potential for this project to attract a national or international hotel or tourism development, which will create investment and jobs.

Our long term Plan is about supporting growth and creating jobs, there is a lot to be done, but we are heading in the right direction.
