The Tasmanian Greens welcomed the 29 recommendations from the internal investigation by the Director of Racing and the Chief Veterinary Officer into the greyhound racing industry.
Greens Animal Welfare spokesperson, Cassy O’Connor MP, said it was obvious from the strong recommendations that a Joint House Parliamentary Inquiry was long overdue.
“The recommendations from the Director of Racing and Chief Veterinary Officer are very welcome and would provide important input to the Joint House Parliamentary Inquiry.”
“These recommendations highlight how crucial a Parliamentary Inquiry into greyhound racing is to the industry in Tasmania.”
“It is obvious from these recommendations and from the many accounts received from across the state, the greyhound racing industry in Tasmania is in crisis.”
“The current state of affairs is unacceptable and I hope that the Parliamentary Inquiry can start work as soon as possible,” Ms O’Connor said.
