Cathy McGowan: Private Member’s Bill, the Charter of Budget Honesty Agreement

Please find links to video ( here ) and transcript ( here ) of Cathy McGowan’s first Private Member’s Bill, the Charter of Budget Honesty Agreement, in which she called on the Government to recognise the needs of regional Australia in the Budget and the impact of Government decisions. Member for Denison, Andrew Wilkie, seconded the Bill.

Cathy wants the Government to include Regional Australia Statements in the Budget in regard to the following:

• the economic, social, cultural and environmental impacts of government initiatives;
• the economic drivers of regional communities; and
• the disproportionate effect that government initiatives may have in regional communities due to a lack of infrastructure including
o mobile phone coverage;
o reliable internet connections; and
o access to public transport
