TasWater maintenance crews have worked through the night and are continuing to focus on repairs to burst water mains which have affected the suburbs of West Hobart, Mt Stuart, Lenah Valley and South Hobart.
The breakage in the water main affecting West Hobart has been repaired and water is being restored to homes gradually. Other areas are still without water.
TasWater is contacting aged care facilities and schools this morning and alternative sources of water are available to customers by calling 13 6992.
TasWater Chief Executive Officer Mike Brewster says that maintenance teams have been working through the night to restore services.
“Broken water mains in Forest Road and Liverpool Crescent in West Hobart at around 6.30pm last night saw customers lose water pressure in West Hobart and later Mt Stuart and Lenah Valley. The water supply was cut off to ensure crews could perform the repairs safely,” Mr Brewster said.
“Due to the configuration of the network, extra pressure was placed onto other sections of the system which resulted in a broken valve in Nevin St, South Hobart,” he said.
“We would like to thank affected customers for their patience during this major outage. Some customers have also been affected by minor flooding and disruption in their street as crews work to fix the problems and their understanding is appreciated,” he said.
Updates on timeframes for restoring water to remaining suburbs will be issued regularly on the TasWater website www.taswater.com.au
Customers are reminded that once water is restored, there may be some discolouration of water. Please run your taps until the water runs clear.
