Work is expected to start next month on a $1.15 million program to reduce the risk of rockfall at five major rock cuttings around the state.

The Department of State Growth has today called for tenders for the work, which is expected to start by the end of March.

This project requires hazard removal and slope protection through engineered remediation treatments to be applied to five high risk rock cutting sites.

These are the Hobart Southern Outlet Highway at the Lea and Tolmans Hill, Gordon River Main Road, Tasman Highway at Rocky Hills and Midland Highway in Launceston.

The remediation works are designed to ensure ongoing structural stability to the rocky slopes within the road reservation and reduce the risk of rockfall to the road users.

It’s expected the work will be completed by mid-year, weather permitting.
