Another key component of our Plan to support local businesses and jobs has been delivered with the launch today of a $100,000 multi-media ‘buy local’ campaign.

Your Purchase has Power is a campaign that encourages Tasmanians to buy locally and support Tasmanian businesses and industry before purchasing goods and services over the internet or interstate.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is leading by example having already introduced a Local Benefits Test for Government tenders which has resulted in an increase in local companies winning contracts.

The Your Purchase has Power campaign includes television advertising, promotional posters, stickers and badges plus a website that will list retailers which have signed up to the campaign.

While the campaign is aimed primarily at Tasmanian consumers and small business retailers – larger enterprises, primary producers and service providers can also help drive local sales.

Tasmanians have seen first-hand the positive benefits of growing the construction and tourism sectors, a vibrant and healthy retail sector is equally as important.

The Department of State Growth is liaising with local retail bodies and chambers of commerce to maximise the benefits of the campaign.

Buy local campaigns are proven to help local economies grow and money that stays in a community continues to circulate through other businesses and helps keep prices down and generates local jobs.
