The Tasmanian Government welcomes today’s release of the Tasmanian Carer Action Plan annual progress report which shows that encouraging results are being achieved.
The Carer Action Plan was developed to assess the achievements of Tasmanian Government agencies, Government Business Enterprises and State Owned Companies and aims to improve the quality of life for carers and provide a safe and supportive environment.
The progress report recognises that agencies have achieved a strong performance in promoting the health and well-being of carers and that staff with caring responsibilities are getting the appropriate support.
There is an established government framework in place to support Tasmania’s 73,800 carers and it is pleasing that the report says that there is an improved culture and that with an aging population this is a challenge that needs to be addressed.
The State Emergency Service (SES) is also leading the Vulnerable Person Project working group which aims to help to identify and locate vulnerable people in an emergency.
The Action Plan runs from 2013-2018 and the Liberal Government is committed to supporting carers so this is a positive start and the on-going effectiveness of the plan will continue to be monitored.
