Treasurer Peter Gutwein’s pre-election promises of quick fix solutions for Tasmania’s economy have today been exposed as a sham.
“Despite receiving more revenue, stripping money out of government businesses, sacking hundreds of people and slashing frontline services, Mr Gutwein has still blown the budget,” Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said.
“What Mr Gutwein has delivered is more debt, a bigger deficit and a baseless promise to return to surplus in 2020.
“Despite all the talk about reigning in expenditure and fixing the budget, the reality is Mr Gutwein has delivered a worse budget bottom line.
“The worst part is Mr Gutwein’s performance has real consequences for the estimated 650 Tasmanians who have already lost their jobs and the hundreds more who will be sacked before the end of the financial year.
“Teachers and nurses are losing their jobs to pay for the Liberal Government’s extravagant election promises.
“It’s time for Mr Gutwein and the Liberals to finally be honest with Tasmanians and stop blaming everyone else but themselves.”
