Shadow Health Minister Rebecca White has called on the State and Federal Liberal Governments to stop bickering over who’s to blame for the closure of a Hobart dementia unit.
The Jasmine Unit at the Roy Fagan Centre in Lenah Valley will close in April.
“Michael Ferguson is blaming his Liberal colleagues in Canberra and they’re saying it’s Mr Ferguson’s responsibility,” Ms White said.
“Passing the buck does not change the fact this important facility is closing.
“The work done in the Jasmine Unit has helped so many Tasmanian families in incredibly challenging times.
“Dementia not only has a devastating effect on the sufferer but their loved ones as well.
“Will Hodgman promised having Liberal governments in Tasmania and Canberra would lead to better outcomes.
“That’s simply not turned out to be the case.
“Michael Ferguson needs to sit down with his counterpart Sussan Ley to work out a way to keep the Jasmine Unit open beyond April.”
