RESPECT 尊重
South Hobart residents have sent the Chinese President Xi Jinping a message of RESPECT.
The sign painted onto a grassed area along the proposed cable car route says RESPECT in both English and Mandarin. It should be clearly visible to anyone flying over on their way to the summit of Mt Wellington.
“We are sending two messages here” said Mr Ted Cutlan, spokesperson for ROCC Tasmania.
“First we are welcoming the President and offering him our respect, while at the same time asking that the Chinese people respect the mountain and understand that the cable car is a divisive proposal that does not have overwhelming support.
Mountains are often revered in the Chinese culture and art and we want potential investors to understand the depth of feeling people have for Mt Wellington / kunyani.
“Any potential investor must consider not only the poor financial case for the cable car but also the fact that community opposition will inevitably lead to negative publicity for those associated with it.
Tas Invest is happening this week and we welcome the overseas investors to Tasmania. The Springs site has been identified by the Hobart City Council as the preferred location for development on the mountain and we endorse that position.
The site of the message is,
Old Farm Road. Cascades.
