Liberals can’t shift blame for cutting teachers
Labor Leader Bryan Green says the Liberal Government is deliberately misleading Tasmanians when it comes to who’s responsible for public sector job losses.
“Cutting two teachers from most Tasmanian schools is completely unacceptable,” Mr Green said.
“The Liberals are dishonestly trying to put the blame at the feet of unions.
“It wasn’t the unions who spent more than $400 million on elections problems and are now forcing Tasmanians to wear the cost.
“It wasn’t the unions who looked at the mid-year financial report and didn’t adjust their spending.
“It wasn’t the unions who repeatedly said they would cap job losses in the public sector at 500.
“It wasn’t the unions who went to an election promising that frontline services would be protected.
“And it wasn’t the unions who rejected a compromise put forward by the independent Industrial Commission.”
Mr Green said it’s time for Will Hodgman and Peter Gutwein to stop blaming everyone but themselves for their actions.
“If the Liberals want to cut jobs from the public service that’s their prerogative, but it’s about time they took responsibility.
“If the Liberals were serious about saving jobs and maintaining public services they would put an immediate freeze on their unaffordable election promises.”
