The Free Trade Agreement between Australia and China will deliver jobs and investment for Tasmania.
Tasmania’s beverage, seafood, fruit, dairy, beef, lamb, honey and fine wool producers are expected to be big winners, because this agreement opens up the massive Chinese market. Our advice is that this agreement will also lead to further growth in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
The State Government stands ready to seize these opportunities. We have a long-term Plan to grow our agriculture, aquaculture and tourism sectors.
We know the FTA will benefit Tasmania and we want to ensure that those benefits are felt right around the state. Working with the community, we will turn these opportunities into real jobs and economic growth that we can all share in.
Combined with the FTA, this week is an absolute watershed moment for Tasmania. The visit by President Xi Jinping tomorrow will showcase Tasmania to China and the rest of the world, providing huge opportunities for our tourism industry.
The Memoranda of Understanding to be signed by the Premier Will Hodgman today as well as this week’s TasInvest summit will not only show that our agriculture, aquaculture, resources, tourism and education sectors are open for business, but that they are amongst the best in the world.
