Tourism industry welcomes interim Triabunna Report
Tasmania’s peak tourism industry organisation has welcomed the findings of the Parliamentary inquiry into the sale of the former Triabunna Mill recommending against any compulsory acquisition of the site.
Tourism Industry Council Tasmania CEO, Luke Martin, said the report should once and for all remove uncertainty and doubt about the redevelopment of the site into a major tourism venture for the East Coast.
“We welcome the interim report and the support shown by the committee for the Spring Bay Mill development,” Mr Martin said.
‘The tourism industry acknowledge the challenges for the forest industry in Tasmania, but we also need to respect the rights of the new owners of this site to develop their land, and the opportunities this investment presents the East Coast and the Tasmanian economy.
‘Of course there is room in Tasmania for both a world class tourism and world class forest industry, but when it comes to Triabunna the future of that site now clearly lies in tourism and it is now in that region’s interests for all stakeholders to come together and support this major investment to proceed as soon as possible.”
