Smithton Recreation Ground
The Liberal Government has provided $80,000 for the Smithton Recreation Ground lighting project, which will improve safety and allow greater use for this important local facility.
We are proud to throw our strong support behind this excellent project. The project has also been co-funded by the Federal Government, the Circular Head Council, the Tasmanian Community Fund and the local community and sporting clubs.
The lighting project will help encourage broader participation in sport and recreational activities in the community, improve safety, support a variety of local events, and maximise the use of the Smithton Recreation Grounds.
Being physically active is a critical part of health and well being, and projects like this one help encourage Tasmanians to get involved. It is the Liberal Government’s target to ensure Tasmania has the healthiest population in Australia by 2025.
Also, this week is Mental Health week. The experts tell us that regular physical activity can be an important factor in preventing and managing mental illness. Opportunities for people to gather socially, particularly during the dark winter months, also strengthen supportive community networks. This project will make social gatherings around sporting and recreational events in Smithton available to more people, for more of the day over more of the year.
Through investing in local community projects, the Liberal Government is helping to build a brighter future for Tasmania.
