Rodney Croome and the Hong Kong Police …

Posted on

On Wednesday, members of the Hong Kong Police Service were in Hobart to learn about the Tasmania Police lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) liaison and training program.

They are keen to establish a similar program and their research showed ours is the best in Australia.

In the morning Inspector Fiona Lieutier, Martine Delaney and I spoke to the Hong Kong delegation about the history of the program and took them to see the art work commemorating the gay rights arrests at Salamanca Market in 1988. They spent the rest of the day talking to trainers, liaison officers and relevant government officials.

It was a great validation for all those who have been involved in this program since it began more than twenty years ago.
