Planning for Tasmania’s Future
The Liberal Government believes that reforming the planning system will create jobs and help unlock our economic potential.
I announced today that I am going to bring to a speedy conclusion the previous Labor-Green Government’s lengthy and drawn out planning agenda which would have taken another four years to complete.
As the first major step I will be introducing legislation later this year that will draw a line under the previous Labor-Green Government’s planning process and enable the Government to bring this process to a close.
The interim schemes will then be brought up to the one consistent level across the state to provide the platform on which to deliver the state-wide planning scheme.
I also announced today that in the first half of next year, Parliament will consider new laws to create the framework for the state-wide scheme and we will develop a single, state-wide set of planning rules that will be rolled out across Tasmania.
We are getting on with the job to deliver a faster, fairer, cheaper and simpler planning scheme which is vital for our long term plan to make Tasmania more attractive for investment and create jobs.
For too long Tasmania’s overly complex planning system has been a handbrake to the economy. Our reforms will streamline approvals, pave the way to unlock investment and drive economic growth.
The Liberal Government is sending a clear message that Tasmania is once again open for business.
