North West Adult Day Centres
The Liberal Government has today ruled out the closure of three Adult Day Centres at Latrobe, Ulverstone and Wynyard.
After being made aware of this issue yesterday I immediately raised my concerns with the Health Minister and highlighted my opposition to any such proposal. He assured me he would look into it as a matter of urgency and I’m pleased he has called me back this morning ruling out any closure.
I am advised this was only a potential savings proposal from THO-NW which was not put forward or approved by either the Minister or the Liberal Government and I was the first and only person to raise it with the Minister.
Minister for Health Michael Ferguson said these services were too vital to lose.
“There’s no doubt we need to put Tasmania’s finances back on a sustainable footing but we need to get the balance right, and in my opinion closing these centres would not have done that.
“There are around 140 people who use the three Adult Day Centres in Latrobe, Ulverstone and Wynyard – these are Tasmanians who need this service and need a place to be and the Government is not closing these centres.”
The Liberal Government is committed to fixing the Budget mess and delivering the health system Tasmanians need and deserve and we are extremely pleased these centres will remain open.
