Local business and children make a connection at this year’s Sustainable Living Festival

Posted on

School children, Sustainable Living Tasmania and Ashgrove are getting together to create a living milk bottle wall. Made up of 750 milk bottle planters, the wall will be on display at the Sustainable Living Festival and aims to raise awareness around recycling, creative use of waste materials and connections.

“We are very pleased to be involved in this unique collaboration, with more than 700 kids from 4 schools planting edible plants in our milk bottles” said Anne Bennett Marketing & Communications Manager from Ashgrove Cheese.

“Each student will place their name, the type of edible plant and a short message on the milk bottle label to spread this year’s festival message of get connected” said Lissa Villeneuve, Festival Director at Sustainable Living Tasmania. “On the second day of the festival all of the students are invited to take a planter home with a message from another student…..making a connection.”

“The concept of the project is to create a visually appealing and interesting feature that will raise awareness around recycling and creative ways to garden on a small scale. We hope to inspire kids to grow their own food and give them an insight of how giving out a little bit of kindness and receiving it feels”, continued Ms Villeneuve.

Jane Hilliard at Designful is coordinating and designing the project installation, Ashgrove Cheese is kindly supplying all the recycled 2ltr milk bottles and Geotas is lending the gabion wall structures for use over the weekend…yet another example of getting connected at this year’s Sustainable Living Festival.

School children from Campbell St Primary School will be planting tomorrow!
