Government urged to save poppy jobs

Posted on

Shadow Minister for Primary Industries David Llewellyn today called on the Liberal Government to explain what it is doing to save around 70 jobs at poppy processor TPI Enterprises.

Mr Llewellyn said the company’s decision to move the bulk of its operations to Victoria was worrying.

“Today’s announcement reflects poorly on the Government and makes a mockery of its promise to put up the open for business sign,” Mr Llewellyn said.

“What effort has the Government and Jeremy Rockliff made to work with TPI to stop these jobs being lost?

“The loss of jobs will be a blow to the Tasmanian poppy industry which the Labor Government worked hard to put on a sustainable growth path for the future.”
