Government shows no urgency to support West Coast

Posted on

The Liberal Government’s much anticipated support package for the West Coast has fallen well short of expectations, according to Labor Leader Bryan Green.

“I commended the work of community representatives on the taskforce but the reality is they have been hamstrung by a complete lack of urgency from the Government,” Mr Green said.

“The Government has had three months to get its act together and the best it could do is produce an interim report, with no money for new initiatives.

“It is a lazy response to the challenges facing the West Coast community and is not good enough.”

“The time for talk is over. People on the West Coast, and in particular Queenstown, want action.

Bryan Green renewed calls on the Liberals to seek urgent support from the Commonwealth.

“They should start by getting a share of the $16 million promised for Cadbury which still remains in limbo,” Mr Green said.

“There is no business case for the Federal Government to spend the money it promised Cadbury, so it should get behind the West Coast and support the community in its time of need.”
