Government covering up abuse of Parliamentary process

Posted on

Labor Leader Bryan Green today called for further scrutiny of whether the Government interfered with the findings of a Parliamentary Committee looking at the Triabunna export woodchip site.

“The Government is trying to cover up the blatant abuse of Parliamentary process,” Mr Green said.

“Both the Premier and the Resources Minister are attempting to deceive the Parliament over questions about the timing of the Government’s decision not to compulsorily acquire the Triabunna site.

“The Government stands accused of interfering with the deliberations of the Community Development Committee to get itself out of an embarrassing political mess.

“After nervously dodging questions, Mr Harris finally said the Government made its decision after the release of the interim report.

“The onus is now on the Liberal Government to prove this is the case, because the evidence does not back it up.

“We must know whether the Government manipulated the deliberations of the Committee to manufacture a political outcome.

“At best the Committee has been terribly politicised by the Liberals but what looks even worse is the Government’s deliberate abuse of Parliament.”
