Discovery Event Exposes Bay of Fires Wonderland

Posted on

Environment Tasmania is launching their third Marine Discovery Event for 2014 with support from Events Tasmania and the Break O Day Council. The series includes three east-coast events that promote Tasmania’s amazing marine and coastal environment and provides a range of affordable events, led by local experts, for people to easily access and experience our incredible coastal environment. The next Marine Discovery event will be held in and around St Helens from Saturday 15 – Sunday 16 November.

“St. Helens is the gateway to explore picturesque Bay of Fires. This area is home to unique marine life and settled on a backdrop of beautiful white sandy beaches, orange lichen and turquoise blue water. However Tasmania’s cold water sometimes makes it harder for people to access this environment or they don’t have the gear and knowledge to do it,” said Rebecca Hubbard, Marine Coordinator with Environment Tasmania.

“At the St Helens Tasmanian Marine Discovery Event we take the community beneath the waves to discover this unique underwater environment – what is there, how it is special, and why it is important.

“The program provides a fun-filled weekend of coastal adventures – guided snorkel and rockpool ramble, coastal bird-watching, seagrass safari, workshops, BBQ lunches, and a fabulous ocean film night with local expert speakers and Tasmanian films.

“Thanks to the support of Events Tasmania and Break O Day Council, we can offer a huge range of activities at a really affordable price. The event is perfect for families and past participants have ranged from 4 – 64 years old,” concluded Ms Hubbard.

Early bird tickets are just $10/adult and $5/child, with an extra $20pp for a guided snorkel, before 7 November. Prices will go up after that.
