Congratulations to Our Sporting Heroes

Posted on

Congratulations to Team Tasmania for putting Tasmania on the map at the 10th Special Olympics Australia National Games.

It was a great honour to host a “welcome home” reception for the 52 Athletes who represented our state at the Games in Melbourne last week.

I also thank the 18 volunteers who supported our athletes in their endeavours.

Team Tasmania won 53 medals, including 22 gold, across six of the seven disciplines they competed in and recorded eight ‘personal bests’ at the games.

But more importantly, our athletes had a lot of fun, were proud ambassadors for our state and an inspiration for us all.

There is a lot to be said for the Special Olympics Athletes’ Oath: Let me win….But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.

To represent our state is a great honour and I’m sure all Tasmanians would join me in congratulating Team Tasmania.

I wish the athletes the best of luck in their bid to be selected for the 2015 World Games Australian team, which will be announced very soon.
