Clarence Local Government Election Event – New Candidates Forum

Posted on

Voters in the Clarence Council local government elections have an opportunity to question almost all the new candidates in one session.

Eleven of the twelve new candidates have agreed to appear at a public forum in Bellerive tomorrow evening.

The event’s organiser, Greens candidate, Jen Van-Achteren, believes voters need every chance to quiz the people standing before the ballot opens on October 14.

“It is probably unusual for a candidate to give their competition an extra chance to be heard. But I think it is crucial voters are able to check out where candidates stand on important issues,” Ms Van-Achteren said.

“So, I have managed to get 11 of us together on the same evening to give voters that opportunity.”

Each candidate will speak for a few minutes about their vision, views and platform. This will be followed by time for questions from the audience and a brief closing statement from each candidate.

“I believe local government will become increasingly more important to the well-being of Tasmanian communities. And, you can only elect the best if you know what each candidate stands for and believes in.”

Tasmania’s local government elections are happening, by postal vote, between October 14 and 28. Ballot papers will arrive in letter boxes within the coming week.
