Bertrand Cadart: Interim report from Triabunna mill inquiry

Posted on

The Mayor of Glamorgan Spring Bay Council, Councillor Bertrand Cadart welcomes the recommendation handed down today in the interim report of the parliamentary inquiry into the Triabunna woodchip mill that the State Government does not compulsorily acquire the land at the mill site and instead gets behind the Spring Bay Mill tourism development.

Mayor Cadart said:
“The Glamorgan Spring Bay Council has been working closely with the developer Mr Graeme Wood since he first commenced plans to develop the site and we wholeheartedly welcome the recommendation that the State Government likewise begins to help facilitate the proposed tourism development.”

Spring Bay Mill will be rejuvenated into a tourism hub and multi-purpose destination to unlock greater tourism potential in the area, providing employment, education and cultural benefits to the region.

Mayor Cadart said:
“The Spring Bay Mill is in an ideal location on the headland of Spring Bay at Triabunna. It is surrounded by rural grazing land, with spectacular views of Maria Island, Orford and Triabunna. I believe the Spring Bay Mill development will be the catalyst for a complete transformation of the Spring Bay area over the next 5-10 years into a prime tourism and marine recreational hub for visitors and locals. The East Coast has the potential to become Tasmania’s tourism mecca and the Spring Bay Mill is completely in line with Glamorgan Spring Bay Council’s vision for the area.

It has been clear before and throughout this inquiry that as a whole the community is very much in favour of the development and can see the potential benefits for everyone in what Mr Wood has planned and I am thankful that the State Government is now willing to facilitate this and why wouldn’t they, it is very much in line with the State Government’s vision for tourism in this State.

Along with other planned developments gaining momentum in the area, Spring Bay Mill will create many more jobs both during the development and ongoing.”
