174 jobs to be cut from State Growth
Job cuts to the Department of State Growth will be a major setback to job creation and investment in Tasmania, according to Labor Leader Bryan Green.
“To cut 174 jobs from the very department responsible for growing the economy makes no sense,” Mr Green said.
“The sad irony is that the Government heralded the Department of State Growth as the driving force for creating new jobs.
“The Government is setting up its new mega department to fail.
Bryan Green questioned plans to appoint a highly paid Coordinator General and the setting up of a new Infrastructure Tasmania office within the Department of State Growth.
“This is an appalling double standard at a time when the Government says we need fewer bureaucrats, not more,” Mr Green said.
“No wonder the Government has gone quiet on these appointments as it prepares to swing the axe through the department.
“The consequences of the Liberals’ $400 million election promises are now coming home to roost and it’s workers who are paying the price.”
