VIDEO: Rylah, Libs put forest politics before policy and industry

Posted on

The Liberals have shown yet again that they are prepared to put politics first, policy second and industry third when it comes to forestry.

In the face of chest beating from Resources Minister Paul Harriss, egged on by his Liberal colleagues, Labor Leader Bryan Green played a budget estimates committee part of an interview clip featuring Braddon MP Joan Rylah.

The television interview from November 2012 shows Mrs Rylah extolling the virtues of the forestry agreement being allowed to pass through the parliament.

“I think it is due process that has happened and I don’t think there is any value in destroying that at this point, I think we need to allow it to run through and see what happens,” Mrs Rylah said.

“I think it’s very important that we allow that process to go through because I believe the industry was in a win/lose situation.”

Mr Green says it highlights that when it comes to forestry, “the Liberals have always put politics first, policy second and industry third.”

“The quotes from Mrs Rylah show the Liberals have only ever feigned opposition to the forestry agreement.

“The Liberals promised one thing before the election and have failed to live up to their tough talk since March.”
