North East Rivers Festival

Posted on

The Liberal Government is committed to building on our competitive strengths including tourism, especially in our regional areas.

Festivals like the North East Rivers Festival are vital to attracting visitors to our regional areas, including Derby, Winnaleah, Legerwood, Scottsdale and Bridport.

The festival draws thousands of visitors every year since its inception seven years ago, many have returned year after year since it flourished into today’s event from the first Derby River Derby in 1976.

The 2014 festival includes 10 events across two consecutive weekends and will begin with an Opening Night and School Fair at the Winneleah District High School on October 17.

The events include a country music concert at Scottsdale, a trout fishing competition, golf challenge and a fun run.

The festival’s highlight, the 39th Derby River Derby, which will see hundreds of competitors take to the Ringarooma River rapids in a bid for trophies and bragging rights.

Last year’s Derby event attracted more than 2,000 spectators to the river’s shores.

Festivals like the North East Rivers Festival not only highlight our regional attractions, but will help our Government reach our target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to Tasmania every year by 2020.
Will Hodgman, Premier Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events
