National Police Remembrance Day
Today’s National Police Remembrance Day commemorations remind us of the risks that our police officers willingly face each day they go to work for our community.
Tasmania Police has been fortunate not to have lost any of its members in the line of duty for some years.
Yet the tragic loss of officers in other states, and the injuries and near-misses that could have been so much worse, remind us of the dangers of their work.
Every day our police officers start their shifts not knowing what they may encounter.
This uncertainty, and the confronting situations that can arise, is difficult not only for them, but also their families and friends.
On behalf of the Government and the community, I want today to thank all Tasmania Police officers for their dedication and hard work, and I also want to acknowledge and thank their loved ones for their support.
Rene Hidding, Minister for Police and Emergency Management
