Michelle O’Byrne: Anti-protest setback an embarrassment for Liberals
The Liberal Government’s dangerously flawed anti-protest legislation has been dealt a potentially fatal blow in the Upper House.
Labor Spokesperson for Workplace Relations Michelle O’Byrne said the Government should abandon its radical and anti-democratic Bill immediately.
“This law could see pensioners and mums and dads locked up simply for speaking their mind,” Ms O’Byrne said.
“The Legislative Council has sent a very clear message that it will not clean up the Government’s mess through a committee.
“The Government knows that if it was to bring on the Bill now it would be soundly and rightfully rejected.”
Ms O’Byrne said the anti-protest bill was symptomatic of the Government’s arrogant and ham fisted approach to policy making.
“This is the same arrogant approach the Government is taking to laws that not only freeze the wages of all Tasmanian nurses, police and teachers, but undermine the very fabric of our industrial relations system.”
