Major Grant for Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania
The Liberal Government is providing $30,000 to the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania through Sport and Recreation Tasmania’s 2014 Major Grants Program.
The grant is funding six Pacer dinghies that will enable greater participation in sailing programs for beginner youths through to seniors.
Today I attended the Official Launch of the RYCT’s Annual Sail School which is an ideal introduction to sailing for youth aged between eight and 18 years.
The grant will bolster the RYCT’s capability to teach Tasmanians of all ages how to sail in an enjoyable, safe and supervised environment.
I am very pleased that the Liberal Government is able to contribute to fostering positive community engagement, healthy lifestyles and ensure that the RYCT can continue to provide exceptional facilities that assist developing even more world class sailors.
RYCT General Manager, Robert Devine believes the six Pacers will increase participation in Yachting Australia certified learn to sail programs by more than 100 sailors, provide opportunities for teams racing for social groups and top level competition and meet increasing community demand from school teams, corporate group and local businesses.
Sport and Recreation Tasmania’s Major Grants Program provides grants of between $15,000 and $80,000 for the benefit of sport and recreation activities in Tasmania, which in turn deliver social and health benefits to communities.
