Liberals cannot be trusted to protect wages of Tasmanian workers

Posted on

Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said today the State Liberal Government could not be trusted to protect the wages of Tasmanian workers.

“Will Hodgman and Peter Gutwein are in lock step with the Abbott Liberal Government’s attack on working people,” Mr Bacon said.

“Riding roughshod over working people is at the very core of the State budget.

“The Government is saying to Tasmanian workers, either take a pay cut or lose your job.

“There are alarming parallels between the Abbott Coalition’s treatment of workers and the impact of pay cuts being forced on Tasmanian public servants.

“The Abbott Government has broken a promise by delaying increases to superannuation and Will Hodgman has no mandate to implement pay cuts.

“The Abbott Government has frozen superannuation contributions, arrogantly claiming it is ‘putting money back in the pockets of workers’.

“To follow that logic, Peter Gutwein should put money back into the pockets of Tasmanian teachers, nurses and police by handing back budget savings but today he flatly ruled it out.

“The Federal and Tasmanian Liberal Governments stand condemned for their harsh treatment of workers.”
