HSR conference to explore psychosocial hazards and workplace diversity

Kicking off WorkSafe Tasmania Month activities for 2014 is the 6th annual conference for Health and
Safety Representatives (HSRs), hosted by Unions Tasmania in conjunction with WorkSafe Tasmania,
and exploring issues as diverse as psychosocial hazards to workplace diversity.

Unions Tasmania Secretary Kevin Harkins said psychosocial hazards can include occupational health,
workplace bullying, violence and aggression as well as fatigue.

“If not correctly managed, psychosocial hazards can have a significant impact on workers mental and
physical health as well as their enjoyment and satisfaction at work,” Mr Harkins said.

“The HSR Conference will also explore the importance of workplace consultation in developing a
positive workplace culture as well as the retention of an ageing workforce and its implications on
work health and safety practices in Tasmanian workplaces.

“Also joining the conference from New Zealand will be Dr Felicity Lamm, who will provide delegates
with insight into workplace diversity and how it affects work health and safety, including emerging
social and industrial issues.”

The Health and Safety Representative Conference will will be held at the Launceston Country Club from
9am-4pm with registration opening at 8.30am.
