Groom spends up big on plush new offices
State Growth Minister Matthew Groom has admitted he is spending $43,574 on plush new offices in the Executive Building.
On the same day he couldn’t detail figures on budget savings, a Right To Information request from Labor revealed an interim spend of $43,574 so far renovating the 10th floor of the building for DSG.
Labor Leader Bryan Green said Matthew Groom needed to justify spending more on his new office than the average Tasmanian would spend on a home renovation.
“At a time when the Liberals talk about belt tightening, Mr Groom is more than happy to fork out more than $40,000 on a new office,” Mr Green said.
“He says he didn’t personally spend the money. Of course he didn’t – it’s taxpayers’ money.
“This is wasteful spending from the same minster who spent about $150 to get a luxury taxi from Sandy Bay to the Botanical Gardens.
“At a time when hard-working teachers, nurses and other public servants are being sacked, Mr Groom is spending up big on new offices.
“It is disgraceful and hypocritical behaviour from an arrogant and out of touch Liberal Government.”
