Cheering On The Cleaner In Cox Plate

Posted on

Tasmanian race goers will be able to follow a rising local star as he runs in the Cox Plate next month.

Locally owned and bred The Cleaner earned his place in the field for the $3 million Cox Plate after winning the Group 2 $250,000 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley at the weekend.

To celebrate The Cleaner’s achievement, and give Tasmanian race goers the opportunity to cheer on the local chance, Tasracing has rescheduled the October 19 Hobart race meeting to Cox Plate day on October 25.

This means local race goers will be able to watch live as The Cleaner runs in the Cox Plate. The now October 25 day race meeting will be held at Tattersall’s Park.

The Mick Burles trained, seven-year-old gelding is capturing the imagination of thoroughbred racing fans by the way he goes to the front in his races and makes the others try to chase him down.

The Cleaner travels to Melbourne in the back of a horse float on the Spirit of Tasmania ferries for each race, which is unconventional, but highly successful.

His success is providing an opportunity for Tasracing to promote Tasmanian racing nationally, particularly the Magic Millions Yearling Sale to be held in Launceston during next year’s Betfair Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival.

Tasracing has also launched a seven-week promotional campaign to follow The Cleaner’s journey to his big race.

There will be a weekly segment on Tasracing Talk on RSN Digital with The Cleaner’s trainer, Mick Burles, and a regular video interview with the Longford trainer on Tasracing’s website.

Paid Facebook advertising will also be used to promote the Tasracing Talk segment and the video interviews.
