Where do Libs stand on Hutchinson’s Hydro call?

Posted on

Labor Leader Bryan Green is challenging Liberal politicians to either stand by or shut down comments made by Federal Member for Lyons Eric Hutchinson, who is advocating either selling the Hydro or higher taxes for Tasmanians.

Mr Hutchinson made the comments in a post on Facebook at the weekend.

Mr Green said the comments could not go unchallenged.

“I call on all Tasmanians to send a clear message to Mr Hutchinson and his Liberal colleagues: Hands off the Hydro,” Mr Green said.

“When Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey flew to Tasmania to spruik asset sales, Eric Hutchinson was nodding away gleefully as they talked about selling the Hydro.

“Mr Hutchinson clearly has no grasp of the strong attachment Tasmanians have for the Hydro or the possible consequences if it is sold.

“He says if the Hydro is not sold that Tasmanians should be paying higher taxes.

“Who exactly does Eric Hutchinson claim to represent? He’s certainly not standing up for Tasmania.

“Selling assets like the Hydro would result in Tasmanians paying more for essential services and squander future opportunities to create wealth for the state.

“The incentive to sell off assets wouldn’t cover even half of the cuts to health and education inflicted on Tasmania by Mr Abbott and Mr Hockey in the Federal Budget.”
