Teachers, nurses to pay for Gutwein’s spending

Posted on

Peter Gutwein has confirmed his upcoming budget will achieve nothing other than cutting thousands of jobs.

Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said teachers, nurses, police, child protection workers, park rangers and other hard working public servants would pay for the Liberal Party’s election extravagance.

“The only thing clear from this strategic pre-budget media drop is that hard working teachers, nurses and other public servants will lose their jobs and the services the community relies on will suffer,” Mr Bacon said.

“It’s a gutless and heartless way to pay for $500 million worth of unaffordable promises.”

Adding to the insult is the fact the Liberal Government won’t even deliver a surplus for at least six years – well beyond the next election.

“This shows that all along Peter Gutwein never intended to honour his central promise of fixing the budget,” Mr Bacon said.

“It is absolutely clear that the reason hard working Tasmanians will lose their jobs is because of the Liberals’ extravagant election promises.”
