Serious Organised Crime Capability

Posted on

The State Budget will deliver our promises, fix the budget mess and lay the foundations for the future.

Since the election, we have been rebuilding our police force, which includes delivering on our commitment to establish a Serious Organised Crime Capability.

Two officers, a constable and a sergeant, started work in the dedicated unit in June and are already delivering results through the new Unexplained Wealth laws that came into effect in March.

The Unexplained Wealth legislation has the potential to dismantle organised crime and force the forfeiture of millions of dollars in assets from criminals.

In fact, the officers have already identified a suspect who will be the first to be investigated under this law.

This is an example of what can be achieved by delivering on our commitment to restore frontline services that were slashed under the Labor Green Government.

We are well on our way to delivering on our promise to recruit an extra 108 officers to our frontline over the next four years.

The graduation of recruits in February 2015, the third since we won Government in March, will help to build the Serious Organised Crime Capability to 14 police, which will include a Cold Case capacity.

The Liberal Government will rebuild the police frontline, crack down on crime and make our communities safer.
