ROCC: Mountain assessment process flawed

Posted on

The recent article in the Tasmanian Times has shown a glaring problem with the current process to amend the Pinnacle Specific Area of Mt Wellington.

There are no checks done to verify the identity of the person writing a submission. The proponent of the cable car Mr Adrian Bold admits to being closely associated with the person responsible for the submission with a false name in the 2012 management plan review.

Residents Opposed to the Cable Car (ROCC) are calling on the Chairperson of the Wellington Park Management Trust (WPMT), Dr Christine Muscha, to suspend the current process.

“We can have no confidence in a process, initiated by the Trust, at the request of the proponent, when the proponent himself admits to being closely associated with the person responsible for the submission in question”, said Mr Ted Cutlan, spokesperson for ROCC.

“The current process means that anyone can put in an anonymous submission. We call on the minister Matthew Groom to review the process and restore the integrity of the management of the mountain”

“ROCC will be writing to the WPMT today, insisting that the current changes to the management plan should be abandoned until the integrity of the process can be assured.”

“It was bad enough that the process was initiated when the cable car proponent simply asked for it, but to continue the faulty process would completely undermine what little credibility it ever had” he said.
