New Housing Connect Location Increases Accessibility
The Liberal Government is committed to rebuilding essential services, particularly in providing housing for low-income and vulnerable Tasmanians.
Today I opened the new Collins Street office of Colony 47, which will be the new Housing Connect site in southern Tasmania.
Housing Connect is a one-stop shop for all the housing and support needs of vulnerable Tasmanians, and is delivered by Colony 47, Anglicare, Centacare, Hobart City Mission and the Salvation Army.
Since its launch in October last year, Housing Connect has responded to around 11,000 requests for housing and support services.
Housing Connect provides immediate assistance, assessment and intake services for people who need help with housing or are homeless.
Applicants can undergo one assessment for everything from emergency accommodation to a long term home.
Colony 47 is the lead agency for delivering Housing Connect in southern Tasmania. The new office is one of seven locations across the state where Tasmanians can access Housing Connect services.
The central Hobart site represents another step in providing increased accessibility for vulnerable Tasmanians. It has better disability access and is more easily accessed by those using public transport.
The Liberal Government is proud to work in partnership with community organisations such as Colony 47 to deliver a hand-up for Tasmanians in need.
We have also started work on a State Affordable Housing Strategy, which will provide a clear framework for the next decade around home ownership, affordable rental, public and community housing, and crisis accommodation.
