EarthCheck Evaluate

The Liberal Government is committed to building on our competitive advantages, particularly in tourism.

We are committed to a target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to Tasmania per year by 2020, which the industry tells us will create up to 8,000 new jobs.

A new program launched today by the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT) will help our tourism operators to make informed business and investment decisions and meet the expectations of sustainability-conscious visitors.

EarthCheck Evaluate is a tool that gives owners and operators access to data which will help them make informed business and investment decisions.

EarthCheck is an internationally-recognised sustainability brand for the travel and tourism sector with 1,300 members in more than 70 countries.

The EarthCheck Evaluate program launched today will help to show businesses how they are performing against eight key indicators: energy; carbon; water; waste; paper; cleaning products; pesticides and community.

It also shows how to address them in the most efficient and cost-effective way.

The program, which is the brainchild of the TICT, will also generate benchmark data which will be valuable for overall industry development and management.

With the Liberal Government currently undertaking the tourism investment Expression of Interest process, this is a timely innovation that will help tourism operators to contribute to our aims of making Tasmania an eco-tourism capital and growing visitor number to 1.5 million by 2020.

Earthcheck founder, EC3 Global, has received funding from the Commonwealth Government to subsidise the rollout of Earthcheck Evaluate, which means more than 700 Tourism Industry Council Tasmania members are gaining free access to the tool for one year.
