Community Collections to Expand Their Capacity

Posted on

The Liberal Government recognises the important role that our regional community museums and collections play as custodians of our state’s unique cultural heritage.

The Lynne Stacpoole Caring for Your Collection program supports smaller community collections and museums to purchase capital items used in the preservation or display of collections.

The program has been made possible through the generous donation of Lynne Stacpoole, former Chair of the Tasmanian Arts Advisory Board’s Small Museums and Collections Panel.

The Lynne Stacpoole Caring for Your Collection program offers three grants of $1,000 each.

Last year, the Rossarden and Storeys Creek Museum received a grant to purchase a custom-built cabinet to display precious objects held in their collections that were at risk of theft or too delicate to display alone.

The cabinet has enabled the museum to share more of its collection with the public, ensuring the stories of our heritage are not forgotten.

The program is delivered as part of Arts Tasmania’s Small Museums and Collections Program, focussed on improving best practice in the preservation of Tasmania’s heritage in small museums and galleries state-wide.

Submissions to The Lynne Stacpoole Caring for Your Collection program close on Monday, 13 October 2014.

For more information on the program, see: www.arts.tas.gov.au/stacpoole or telephone Arts Tasmania on 03 6165 6666 to speak to a program officer.
