Come Clean on Public Sector Jobs
The Hodgman government is under fire for continuing to drag out the employment uncertainty for the state’s public sector workers in the lead up to Thursday’s State Budget.
“Leaving the axe hanging over potentially 1500 public sector jobs in callous and reprehensible,” Greens Leader and Treasury spokesperson Kim Booth MP said.
“Surely the Budget Papers are at the printers by now, mere days before Thursday’s delivery day, so if defies belief that the Treasurer, Peter Gutwein, does not know the exact number of public sector jobs in the Liberals’ firing line, and the exact figure of so-called savings.”
“The Greens are calling on Treasurer Gutwein to immediately disclose the number of workers they intend to sack, and which sectors which will lose those workers.”
“The Liberals can apparently disclose prior to the release of the Budget funding for additional mining inspectors, and covering the concessions hole left by the Abbott budget. Why are they refusing to provide clarity over the fate of thousands of Tasmanian workers?”
“This has all the hallmarks of a revenge budget. The public sector is having to pay twice through job cuts and a wage freeze simply to mee the $400 million in the Liberals’ election spending spree buying their way into power.”
“It will be those Tasmanians reliant upon the community services delivered by our hard-working public servants who will ultimately be the loser,” Mr Booth said.
The Greens also confirmed they will be releasing their own Alternative Budget in response to the Government’s.
